Kizomba Classes in London – FAQ

Kizomba Classes in London – Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first Kizomba class with Ginga Boo UK. Can’t find your answer? Email admin@gingaboo.com or call 07814 737145.

What is Kizomba?

Kizomba is a smooth, connected partner dance from Angola, danced to slow, rhythmic music. It focuses on connection, walking and musicality rather than complicated moves, which makes it one of the most welcoming partner dances for beginners.

I’ve never danced before. Can I still join?

Yes. Our Level 1 Foundations class is designed for complete beginners, and no dance experience is needed. You’ll learn the basic steps, posture, connection and how to lead or follow, one step at a time.

Do I need a partner?

No, you can come on your own. Most of our students do. We rotate partners during class, so everyone gets to practise and you’ll quickly get to know people.

When and where are the classes?

Every Thursday at Casa Ritmo, 64-66 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6DF, about 4 minutes’ walk from Elephant & Castle station. There’s free parking on the side streets.

What levels do you teach?

Not sure which level is right for you? Just ask the teachers on the night and they’ll help you choose.

How much does it cost?

Online sales close at 4pm on Thursdays. After that, you can simply pay at the door (cash or card, fees apply). There’s a mandatory cloakroom at the venue (£1.50 per item).

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in easily, like leggings, jeans, trousers or a skirt. For shoes, choose soft or smooth soles that let you turn easily, such as dance sneakers or smooth-soled shoes. Avoid trainers with heavy grip or any open shoes.

Do I need to wear heels?

Not at all. Heels are optional. Many beginners start in flat shoes and focus on the basics first.

Will I have to dance close to strangers?

Kizomba is danced in a close embrace, but your comfort always comes first. You choose how close you dance, and you can always adjust the hold or say no to a dance. Our teachers explain dance etiquette from the very first class.

Should I stay for the social dancing?

We really recommend it, even for just 30 minutes. Social dancing is where you put what you’ve learned into practice with different partners, and it’s the fastest way to build confidence.

How long does it take to learn Kizomba?

Everyone learns at their own pace, but with regular weekly classes most beginners feel comfortable with the basic steps within a few weeks, and confident on the social dance floor within a few months.

What’s the difference between Kizomba, Semba and Urban Kiz?

We teach all three, so you can explore whichever style you enjoy most.

Can I bring my own drinks?

No, outside drinks aren’t allowed. The venue bar serves water, soft drinks and alcohol.

What is your cancellation policy?

Tickets are non-refundable, but you can change the name on your ticket up to 3 days before the event.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. We offer one-to-one and couple lessons tailored to your goals. Email admin@gingaboo.com to arrange one.

How do I book?
